Happening Existence

Concept - In Spiritual Realm, there is a popular concept that everything in this existence is happening on its own and no one is actually doing anything. Actually, all Spiritual Masters, without exception, adhered to this concept. Even in my writings on Spiritual Musings ( https://www.astrosaxena.com/articles/SpiritualMusings ) & Fate Vs Free Will ( https://www.astrosaxena.com/articles/FateVsFreeWill ) I agreed with this philosophy.

Confusion - But this is such a deep and subtle concept that there bound to be many confusions or questions regarding this because when we see ourselves and others’ acting in certain ways and thereby certain events happening in life then it is almost impossible to accept that everything in this existence is happening on its own and no one is actually doing anything.

So, I thought of responding a few generic questions, confusions or doubts around this Philosophy. So, here we go -

1. If everything is happening on its own then what we are doing? - Nothing, we are only assuming that we are doing something else just think like that we all wanted to do many things in life and we all tried to do many things in our lives then if we are doing and events are happening due to our actions then why all those desires didn’t get fulfilled where we had put actions and efforts? Who stopped us from manifesting those desires?

Best example - In my clients only, there are many couple who are planning for child birth from years but unable to have the child and there are many others, who were not even looking for child birth still they had the child.

It happens sometimes that whatever was about to happen anyways in our lives by this or that way, we were also aligned with same event through our desires, and that thing or event manifests in life. This gives the boost to human ego that “I did it”. Whenever such thought catches you, just ask yourself again that if we are doers and things are happening in life due to our actions then why all those desires didn’t get fulfilled where we had put actions and efforts?

Basic thing is that things are happening on their own but human mind loves to take credit of manifestation done by existence.

2. Then human mind says that if people start following this concept that everything is happening on its own or by God then they will become lazy and won’t put any effort. Or it can also happen that people will start doing negative things because the blame will go on God.

Answer - I discussed this argument here - https://astrosaxena.com/articles/SpiritualConfusions . I think that it will be better if we consider whole existence or energy as God rather than considering God as an individual.

So, if someone goes into destructive mode (either for Self through laziness or for others through bad acts) and then blames the existence for that then he didn’t understand this whole concept itself.

If I really accept that everything is happening on its own and I go to commit any crime and then I suffer the punishment for that crime then I will accept that even that punishment is also part of happening. So, a person ,who has really understood and imbibed this concept, will not blame anyone for his laziness or destructive actions. He will accept it also part of existence.

The basic thought which says that everything is happening on its own, is coming from the concept of Non-Doer. If someone has really understood it then he won’t say that I won’t take any action or I would take destructive action as these statements are coming from the idea of Doer, rather than Non-Doer. Even saying this much that I will not take any action then it means that person thinks that he can act or he can in-act on his own. If I really accept that everything is happening on its own then I will know that even my doing is also part of happening. As I cannot act on my own then I also cannot stop acting on my own.

Device - Moreover, this concept and our reaction to this concept can tell us a lot about ourselves. So, this concept that everything is happening on its own can be a good device to know where we stand in life.

Pay attention that majority of times, after listening to this concept, people either say that due to this concept people will stop taking any action and become lazy or they say that people will start doing bad things or become destructive. As if doing good or positive is never any option before us.

If human mind can think that people will become lazy or destructive then why same human mind can’t think that people will become creative. Do we think that existence only likes or supports lazy or destructive people? As per my understanding, another name for existence is creation and creation has come out of creativity. So, creation will support us more if we go into creative mode.

Then why we always feel that being positive or creative is not an option and only options we have is either become lazy or destructive. It tells much about ourselves rather than about anything else.

If out of all options given, I am only choosing Tamasic options (inaction or destruction) then it tells a lot about me. It tells that destruction is in my core foundation of mind and all the good I show-off in the world is a show-off only.

That’s how; this concept can also be utilized in knowing where we stand in our evolution.

Now, let’s understand this concept like this -

This concept of “everything is happening on its own” is a concept of total surrender. Such a person is not looking to claim his right over any results in his life; neither good nor bad. He is just receptive towards anything in life; as to whatever life brings it up to him.

So, when such a person is not even interested in doing good and claiming its credit then would he be interested in doing bad and blaming the divine?

This person, in true sense, has gone beyond the duality of good and bad. He does whatever existence presents in front of him. If existence brings relationship in life then he is ready to welcome relationship and if existence brings situation of break-up then he is equally ready to welcome break-up too.

For him, there is nothing right or nothing wrong; there is nothing good or nothing bad; and there is nothing moral or nothing immoral. He is an amoral or trans-moral person. Whatever comes in front of him in the moment as a matter to act, he will decide in that moment only. That’s why; Lord Krishna can say to Arjuna to even kill people in war whereas killing anyone is against all kinds of social moralities.

Again, the only thing which is important here is that a person who is surrendered to divine will in this manner that he accepts that “everything is happening on its own” that person will never stop acting as per his nature because stopping your actions also mean that you think that you were doing them. When everything is happening then my doing is also part of happening. Only that person can contemplate stopping his actions who thinks that he is doing anything.

All we can do is to continue putting efforts and move from Tamas (Destructive) to Rajas (Creative) to Satva (Balance) Gunas for our own evolution. This much is within our ability because consciousness is always evolving and expanding. There is no end for consciousness. Likewise, human consciousness is supposed to evolve and expand through Gunas and when we are on such path of evolution then existence automatically brings the best of results our way.

Finally, whatif people will start doing bad after misunderstanding this philosophy?

None does anything good or bad due to anything or anyone. People do what they want to do anyways for which they find excuses anyways or anyhow. If not this philosophy then person will find excuse anywhere else to act as per his nature (Tamasic, Rajasic or Satvic).
